Approach to Helicobacter pylori infection in paediatric population
Abstract
Infection with Helicobacter pylori significantly decrease in its prevalence recorded in recent years, especially in the developed world and dropped below 20%. In majority of cases in children Helicobacter pylori cause asymptomatic chronic gastritis. Systematic reviews and metanalysis showed that recurrent abdominal pains in children are not associated with bacterial infection. Therefore "test and treat" strategy is not recommended in pediatric population. Eradication therapy should be prescribed according to antimicrobial sensitivity of the bacterial strain obtained during endoscopy. In the article are presented recommendations and guidelines of the joint North American and European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN, ESPGHAN) published this year, based on the systemic review of published studies from that field.
